EU extends and amends Temporary Crisis Framework until end 2023
Measure in Brief
The Commission amended and prolonged the State aid Temporary Crisis Framework to help Member States support their economies amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine and resulting energy shocks. The amendment gives Member States more flexibility to set up targeted support schemes, maintains incentives to reduce energy consumption and expands tools for renewables and industrial decarbonisation, and prolongs the Framework's application until the end of 2023.
Who Is Affected
The measure is aimed at Member States and the households and companies across the EU facing extraordinary increases in energy costs, in particular companies seriously affected by current energy prices. The Commission said the Framework seeks to preserve the level playing field in the Single Market while avoiding support for companies that do not need it.
What Comes Next
The Commission discussed the changes in three rounds of consultations with Member States and said it will continue to work closely with them to coordinate implementation and policy action.
