Foodstuffs for human consumption: amending certain 'Breakfast' Directives

Decision

The European Parliament adopted its position at first reading on 10 April 2024 (P9_TA(2024)0193) on the Commission proposal COM(2023)0201, replacing the amendments adopted on 12 December 2023 (P9_TA(2023)0445), and instructed its President to forward its position to the Council, the Commission and the national parliaments.

What Changes

Parliament’s position sets out amendments to a proposal to amend Council Directives 2001/110/EC, 2001/112/EC, 2001/113/EC and 2001/114/EC, which relate respectively to honey, fruit juices and certain similar products intended for human consumption, fruit jams jellies and marmalades and sweetened chestnut purée, and certain partly or wholly dehydrated preserved milk; as an agreement was reached with the Council, Parliament’s position corresponds to the final legislative act, Directive (EU) 2024/1438.

Who Is Affected

The outcome affects the EU legal framework covering honey, fruit juices and similar products, fruit preserves and certain dehydrated preserved milk and therefore concerns operators and products in those food sectors together with the EU institutions involved in the legislative process.
