EU Commission reviews Clean Transition Dialogues with industry
Main Message
Today's Communication reports that industry and social partners confirmed a strong commitment to shape and implement the European Green Deal and highlighted social fairness and quality jobs. It identifies building blocks for a reinforced industrial approach including an effective simplified regulatory framework, action on energy prices, modern infrastructure, easier access to finance and a stronger Single Market.
Why It Matters
Participants said securing abundant and affordable zero and low-carbon energy is a key condition to accelerate decarbonisation and preserve competitiveness, notably for energy-intensive industries. The Dialogues also called for measures such as industrial clusters, reconsideration of energy taxes and levies, and the use of policy instruments against unfair global competition including the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
What Follows
The stocktake will feed into the European Council discussion, the Commission will continue the Clean Transition Dialogues and publish key indicators on a dedicated platform while considering demand aggregation and pilots for hydrogen and critical raw materials.
