Temporary trade‑liberalisation measures for Moldovan products approved at first reading

Decision

The European Parliament adopted its position at first reading on 13 March 2024 on the Commission proposal COM(2024)0051 for a regulation on temporary trade‑liberalisation measures supplementing trade concessions applicable to products from the Republic of Moldova, recorded under A9-0079/2024. Parliament noted the Council representative's letter undertaking to approve Parliament’s position and the agreement reached with the Council means Parliament's position corresponds to the final legislative act, Regulation (EU) 2024/1501.

What Changes

The adopted position establishes temporary trade‑liberalisation measures that supplement the trade concessions contained in the Association Agreement between the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and the Republic of Moldova. Parliament also calls on the Commission to refer the matter back to Parliament if it replaces or substantially amends its proposal and instructed its President to forward the position to the Council, the Commission and the national parliaments.

Who Is Affected

The measures directly concern products from the Republic of Moldova under the Association Agreement and involve the European Commission, the Council and national parliaments.
