Resolution on unjustly imprisoned Uyghurs, notably Ilham Tohti and Gulshan Abbas

Decision

The European Parliament adopted the motion for a resolution B10‑0101/2024 (procedure 2024/2857(RSP)) on the cases of unjustly imprisoned Uyghurs, with the adopted text recorded as P10_TA(2024)0019 and pursuant to Rule 150 of its Rules of Procedure.

What Changes

The resolution urges the PRC to immediately and unconditionally release Ilham Tohti and Gulshan Abbas, to stop harassing their families and to restore families’ rights to visit detainees including virtual communication, and demands an end to repression in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong and the release of numerous named activists. It also condemns extraterritorial repression, calls on Member States to suspend extradition treaties with the PRC, welcomes the EU forced‑labour import ban and insists on adequate financing and implementation, and instructs the Parliament President to forward the resolution to the Council, the Commission, the HR/VP, the PRC and the UN.
