Press conference on proposed forced labour regulation

What Was Decided

The proposed regulation would give the EU the right to ban the sale, import and export of products made using forced labour, with bans based on the results of investigations by member state authorities or the European Commission. Banned products would have to be withdrawn from the EU market and donated, recycled or destroyed, and non-compliant companies could be fined.

Who Is Affected

Investigations would be carried out by member state authorities or the European Commission, and the measures would affect companies whose products are found to be made with forced labour and the EU market where such goods are sold. Goods may be allowed back on the market if a company eliminates forced labour from its supply chains.
