Parliament objects to authorisation of GM maize MON 95275

Decision

The European Parliament adopted resolution B10‑0060/2025 (P10_TA(2025)0015) on the draft Commission implementing decision authorising the placing on the market of products containing, consisting of or produced from genetically modified maize MON 95275, and the motion was tabled by the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. The resolution notes EFSA’s favourable opinion adopted on 19 June 2024 and published on 1 August 2024 and records that the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed and the Appeal Committee delivered no opinion.

What Changes

Parliament considers the draft exceeds the Commission’s implementing powers and is not consistent with Union law, and it calls on the Commission to withdraw the draft, submit a new draft to the committee and not to authorise the GM crop. The resolution also urges the Commission to ensure convergence of standards in trade negotiations, to take account of international agreements and sustainability obligations, and to strengthen monitoring and independent data verification.

Who Is Affected

The resolution directly concerns the Commission, Member States, EFSA, the applicant Bayer Agriculture B.V. and operators of foods, food ingredients and feed containing, consisting of or produced from MON 95275.
