Parliament gives consent to agreement on Border and Coast Guard activities in Albania

Decision

The European Parliament adopted a legislative resolution (P9_TA(2024)0169) on 14 March 2024 giving its consent to the conclusion of the international agreement at issue; the resolution followed the recommendation of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (A9-0036/2024) and took account of the draft Council decision (11945/2023) and the agreement text (11944/2023).

What Changes

Parliament's consent enables the EU to conclude the agreement that provides a legal basis for the European Border and Coast Guard Agency to carry out operational activities on Albanian territory. The resolution also instructs the President of the Parliament to forward Parliament's position to the Council, the Commission and the governments and parliaments concerned.

The outcome concerns the European Union and the Republic of Albania, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency and will be transmitted to the Council, the Commission and the governments and parliaments of the Member States and of the Republic of Albania.
