Parliament consents to protocol amending EU‑Japan Economic Partnership
Decision
The European Parliament adopted the recommendation on the draft Council decision (text A9-0081/2024) from the Committee on International Trade, rapporteur Danilo Oscar Lancini, and approved the draft Council decision recorded as P9_TA(2024)0168. The plenary vote took place at PV 14/03/2024 9.10 and the consent was given by a majority of the votes cast under procedure 2023/0450(NLE).
What Changes
Parliament’s consent clears the way for the Council to conclude, on behalf of the European Union, the Protocol amending the Agreement between the European Union and Japan for an Economic Partnership. The practical legal effect is the formal approval needed for the EU to finalise and implement the agreed amendments to that Agreement.
