Parliament consents to EU‑Egypt tariff quota modifications after UK withdrawal

Decision

The European Parliament adopted Recommendation A9-0078/2024 and approved the draft Council decision P9_TA(2024)0210, thereby consenting to the conclusion of an Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the Union and the Arab Republic of Egypt; the vote was recorded at 21.35 on 10 April 2024 and passed by a majority of the votes cast. The Recommendation was tabled by the Committee on International Trade with Marco Campomenosi as rapporteur.

What Changes

The Agreement implements modifications of concessions on all the tariff rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV pursuant to Article XXVIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994. These changes are presented as a consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union.
