Parliament consents to EU–Egypt tariff quota changes
Decision
The European Parliament adopted a legislative resolution of 10 April 2024 (P9_TA(2024)0210), giving its consent to the conclusion of the draft Council decision and the agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters with the Arab Republic of Egypt; it instructed its President to forward its position to the Council, the Commission and the governments and parliaments of the Member States and of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
What Changes
The agreement, concluded pursuant to Article XXVIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994, modifies concessions on all the tariff rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV as a consequence of the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union. The effect is a legal adjustment of tariff rate quota concessions in the EU schedule to reflect that withdrawal.
Who Is Affected
The measure directly concerns the European Union and the Arab Republic of Egypt and applies to the tariff rate quotas listed in the EU Schedule CLXXV.
