Mercury: amendments on dental amalgam and mercury-added products adopted
Decision
The European Parliament adopted the provisional agreement on the report A9-0002/2024 on 10 April 2024, with the adopted text recorded as P9_TA(2024)0191 and approved by a majority of the votes cast. This outcome closed Parliament’s first reading of the proposal originating from COM(2023)0395 under procedure 2023/0272(COD).
What Changes
The adopted text amends Regulation (EU) 2017/852 on mercury by introducing provisions specifically concerning dental amalgam and other mercury-added products that are subject to manufacturing, import and export restrictions. The legal effect is to change the existing mercury regulation so those product categories are addressed under the amended rules.
