Genetically modified maize MON 87427

Decision

The European Parliament adopted resolution P10_TA(2025)0292 on 25 November 2025 on the draft Commission implementing decision renewing the authorisation for placing on the market of products containing, consisting of or produced from genetically modified maize MON 87427. The resolution was adopted after EFSA issued an opinion on the renewal application and after the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed and the Appeal Committee delivered no opinion.

What Changes

Parliament considers the draft implementing decision to exceed implementing powers and to be inconsistent with Union law and calls on the Commission to withdraw the draft and not to renew the authorisation due to concerns including glyphosate-related risks and insufficient long-term evidence. The resolution also calls on the Commission to submit a legislative proposal to reform the GMO decision-making procedure, urges consideration of international obligations and instructs its President to forward the resolution to the Council and the Commission.

Who Is Affected

The resolution concerns products containing, consisting of or produced from GM maize MON 87427, the applicant Bayer Agriculture B.V., EU institutions including the Commission and EFSA, and Member States involved in the authorisation procedure.
