Framework for ensuring a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials
Decision
The European Parliament adopted a provisional agreement on the report on the proposal for a regulation establishing a framework for ensuring a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials (COM(2023)0160 - C9-0061/2023), as recorded in document A9-0260/2023 and in the adopted text P9_TA(2023)0454; the adoption was by a majority of the votes cast and Parliament’s first reading was closed. The matter was taken in the Strasbourg sitting listed for 12 December 2023 and recorded under item 7.11.
What Changes
The adopted text establishes an EU framework aimed at ensuring a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials and provides for amendments to existing Union legislation, specifically Regulations (EU) 168/2013, (EU) 2018/858, 2018/1724 and (EU) 2019/1020. The parliamentary report that led to adoption was prepared by the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy.
