European Parliament resolution on closer ties with Armenia and need for Armenia–Azerbaijan peace

The European Parliament adopted resolution B9‑0167/2024 under procedure 2024/2580(RSP) on 8 March 2024, recorded as Texts adopted P9_TA(2024)0158.

What Changes

The resolution condemns the repeated use of force between Armenia and Azerbaijan and calls for the resumption of talks to conclude a comprehensive, sustainable peace treaty that guarantees the rights and security of Karabakh Armenians and other affected populations. It welcomes deeper EU‑Armenia cooperation, supports strengthening and possible extension of the EU mission in Armenia, urges the High Representative and EEAS to suspend negotiations on a renewed partnership with Azerbaijan until conditions on rights and security are met, and asks the Council to consider targeted sanctions and the Commission to reconsider a strategic partnership with Azerbaijan in the field of energy.
