European Parliament resolution on closer ties between the EU and Armenia and the need for a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia

The European Parliament adopted resolution B9‑0164/2024 (procedure 2024/2580(RSP)) on closer ties between the EU and Armenia and the need for a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia; the text is recorded as B9‑0164/2024.
What Changes
The resolution condemns Azerbaijan’s invasion of Nagorno-Karabakh and the ethnic cleansing of its Armenian inhabitants, deplores the destruction of Armenian cultural and historical heritage and calls for good-faith negotiations towards a lasting, comprehensive peace agreement based on territorial integrity, mutual respect and non-aggression. It urges Azerbaijan to respect the ceasefire, withdraw from occupied Armenian territories, close the so-called Trophy Park, and it calls on the Commission to impose targeted sanctions and to suspend the Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership in the Field of Energy while encouraging the EU and Member States to deepen support for Armenia’s reforms, humanitarian needs and regional cooperation.

The resolution directly concerns Armenia and Azerbaijan, the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, the European Commission and EU Member States, and calls on the international community and OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to assist in the peace process.
