EU imposes anti-dumping duties on Chinese candles

Key development

The Commission imposed definitive anti-dumping duties of 56% to 60% on imports into the EU of candles, tapers and the like from the People’s Republic of China.

Context

An investigation found these imports are entering the EU at dumped prices and causing injury to the EU industry, which employs some 9,000 people in around 80 companies.

Details

The EU market is estimated at 620,000 tonnes worth around €1,700 million, with imports of 170,000 tonnes, about 140,000 tonnes of which originate in China. Candles covered by the measures produce heat and light and are widely used for interior or outdoor decoration.

Next steps

The duties will be in place for five years. The definitive measures were published on 2 February 2026 by the Directorate-General for Trade and Economic Security in Brussels and a link to the definitive measures is provided.
