EP resolution on GM maize DAS1131 authorisation
Decision
The European Parliament adopted resolution B10‑0489/2025 (P10_TA(2025)0288) on a draft Commission decision concerning genetically modified maize DAS1131, under procedure 2025/2893(RSP). The text notes that the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed delivered no opinion on 15 September 2025 and that EFSA issued a favourable scientific opinion on 5 February 2025.
What Changes
Parliament's resolution concludes that the draft decision exceeds the Commission’s implementing powers and is not consistent with Union law and calls on the Commission to withdraw the draft and not to authorise the GM maize due to insufficient evidence on long‑term impacts. It also calls on the Commission to submit a legislative proposal to reform GMO decision‑making and urges consideration of the One Health approach and international obligations.
Who Is Affected
The outcome directly concerns the applicant Corteva Agriscience Belgium B.V. on behalf of Corteva Agriscience LLC, the European Commission and Member States involved in the committee process, and Union farmers whom Parliament says could face competitive disadvantage.
