EP resolution on Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu's imprisonment in Azerbaijan
Decision
The European Parliament adopted resolution B9‑0373/2023, recorded in the adopted texts as P9_TA(2023)0323, on 12 September 2023 addressing the case of Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu.
What Changes
The text urges the Azerbaijani authorities to ensure access to health care and medication, to cease inhumane and degrading treatment and to unconditionally release Dr Ibadoghlu and other political prisoners; it denounces a crackdown on opposition and the misuse of fabricated criminal investigations and calls on the High Representative, the EEAS and Member States to condemn the violations and to raise such cases in bilateral meetings and in negotiations of a future partnership agreement. The resolution also underlines that deepening cooperation should be subject to Azerbaijan respecting its commitments as a member of the Council of Europe and the OSCE and instructs the Parliament President to forward the text to relevant EU and international bodies.
