EP resolution demands release of Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu and urges EU action
Decision
The Parliament adopted a motion for a resolution on the case of Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu under procedure 2023/2832(RSP), recorded as adopted text P9_TA(2023)0323 on 13 September 2023.
What Changes
The resolution demands Ibadoghlu’s immediate and unconditional release, immediate access to adequate medical treatment and an independent investigation into reported ill‑treatment and due process violations. It calls on the Vice‑President/High Representative, the EEAS and Member States to condemn human rights breaches, to raise such cases in bilateral meetings and to make a future partnership agreement conditional on the release of political prisoners, requests EU Delegation monitoring of his trial and health, and calls for sanctions under the EU Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime.
