EP backs closer EU–Armenia ties and calls for peace deal

The European Parliament adopted resolution B9-0163/2024 under procedure 2024/2580(RSP) on 8 March 2024, recorded as P9_TA(2024)0158, to wind up the debate on the Vice‑President/High Representative’s statement.

What Changes

The resolution calls for the swift development of a new EU‑Armenia partnership agenda and urges the Commission and Council to launch the visa‑liberalisation dialogue without delay, deepen economic integration via the CEPA and tackle evasion of EU sanctions. It requests enhanced EU support and investment in infrastructure and energy, increased humanitarian and technical assistance for people displaced from Nagorno‑Karabakh, a strengthened civilian EU Mission presence in Armenia, and reiterates calls for targeted sanctions against Azerbaijani officials and suspension of the Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation with Azerbaijan.
