Amending Regulation (EU) No 1026/2012 on conservation of fish stocks relating to non‑sustainable fishing

Decision

The European Parliament adopted its position at first reading on 9 July 2025 (P10_TA(2025)0150; A10-0070/2025) on the Commission’s proposal to amend Regulation (EU) No 1026/2012, and instructed its President to forward that position to the Council, the Commission and the national parliaments. The provisional agreement was approved by the Committee on Fisheries and the Council representative gave an undertaking by letter of 11 June 2025 to approve Parliament’s position, and Parliament called on the Commission to refer the matter back if it substantially amends or replaces its proposal.

What Changes

Parliament’s adopted position amends Regulation (EU) No 1026/2012 to update certain measures for the purpose of conserving fish stocks in relation to countries allowing non‑sustainable fishing. As an agreement was reached between Parliament and Council, Parliament’s position corresponds to the final legislative act, Regulation (EU) 2025/2077.

Who Is Affected

The act directly concerns countries identified as allowing non‑sustainable fishing and the EU institutions responsible for adopting and implementing conservation measures for fish stocks.
