43rd EU–Canada Interparliamentary Meeting in Ottawa and Halifax
Context
The 43rd EU–Canada Interparliamentary Meeting took place in Ottawa on 27–28 October 2025 and was followed by a provincial programme in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where Members visited maritime hubs and held discussions with the Honourable Barbara Adams and the Honourable Danielle Barkhouse. As is customary for visits by the Delegation for relations with Canada, the programme included this provincial component alongside the capital meetings.
Key Topic
Members of the European Parliament and the Canadian Parliament discussed trade, energy, security and defence cooperation, and the responsible governance of artificial intelligence as key issues in EU–Canada relations. These areas were highlighted across sessions as priorities for the bilateral agenda during the IPM.
What to Watch
A joint statement was signed at the end of the meeting reaffirming the strong will to enhance the EU–Canada partnership.
