Parliament adopts Net Zero Industry Act report
Decision
The European Parliament adopted the report on the proposal for a regulation establishing a framework of measures for strengthening Europe’s net-zero technology products manufacturing ecosystem (Net Zero Industry Act), procedure 2023/0081(COD), report C9-0062/2023. Parliament approved the Commission proposal and amendments (P9_TA(2023)0401) by a majority of the votes cast and adopted texts P9_TA(2023)0401 and P9_TA(2024)0378; a request to refer the matter back to the committee under Rule 59(4) by rapporteur Christian Ehler was approved.
What Changes
The adopted text establishes a regulatory framework of measures intended to strengthen the manufacturing ecosystem for net-zero technology products in Europe, as set out in the Commission proposal COM(2023)0161 and the committee report. Procedurally the plenary approved referral back to the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy for interinstitutional negotiations.
