EU Parliament consents to tariff quota changes with Chile

Decision

The Parliament gave its consent to the draft Council decision concluding, on behalf of the Union, an agreement with the Republic of Chile to modify concessions on all tariff rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV as a consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union; the plenary approved the text (P9_TA(2023)0256) following a majority of the votes cast. The recommendation was tabled by the Committee on International Trade with rapporteur Samira Rafaela under procedure 2023/0036(NLE) and is recorded as document A9-0222/2023.

What Changes

The agreement amends the concessions attached to every tariff rate quota listed in EU Schedule CLXXV to take account of the effects of the UK’s withdrawal, thereby changing the legal entries and concessions that govern those quotas. These are formal schedule modifications enacted through the concluded agreement and recorded in the adopted parliamentary text.

Who Is Affected

The measure directly concerns the European Union and the Republic of Chile and applies to the tariff rate quotas set out in EU Schedule CLXXV.
