Resolution on genetically modified maize MON 94804 (P10_TA(2024)0045)
Decision
The European Parliament adopted a resolution (P10_TA(2024)0045) on 26 November 2024 objecting to the draft Commission implementing decision authorising the placing on the market of products containing, consisting of or produced from genetically modified maize MON 94804 (D099729/02 – 2024/2841(RSP)). The resolution considers that the draft exceeds the Commission’s implementing powers and is not consistent with Union law.
What Changes
The resolution calls on the Commission to withdraw the draft implementing decision and to submit a new draft to the committee. It also urges the Commission to take into account the Union’s obligations under international agreements and to accompany draft implementing acts with an explanatory memorandum explaining how they uphold the principle of 'do no harm'.
Who Is Affected
The resolution concerns foods, food ingredients and feed containing, consisting of or produced from GM maize MON 94804, the applicant Bayer Agriculture BV on behalf of Bayer CropScience LP, the Commission, EFSA and Member States involved in the committee process.
