Parliament consents to EU‑Argentina Exchange of Letters amending GATT tariff‑rate quotas

The European Parliament approved a recommendation consenting to the conclusion, on behalf of the Union, of an Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the European Union and the Argentine Republic amending the Agreement pursuant to Article XXVIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1994, with the recommendation recorded as A9-0083/2024 and the adopted text published as P9_TA(2024)0211; the Committee on International Trade rapporteur was Jordi Cañas and the plenary decision was taken by a majority of the votes cast, noted in the minutes as PV 10/04/2024 - 21.36.
What Changes
The Exchange of Letters modifies concessions on all the tariff-rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV, reflecting adjustments required as a consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union, and does so through an amendment agreed between the Union and the Argentine Republic under Article XXVIII GATT 1994.
