Parliament adopts ecodesign framework for sustainable products
Decision
The European Parliament adopted the report on the proposal for a regulation establishing a framework for setting ecodesign requirements for sustainable products, recorded as A9-0218/2023 and reflected in the adopted text P9_TA(2024)0303. The provisional agreement was adopted by a majority of the votes cast and Parliament’s first reading was closed.
What Changes
The adopted regulation establishes a framework for setting ecodesign requirements for sustainable products and repeals Directive 2009/125/EC, following the Commission proposal COM(2022)0142 and the Parliament’s report C9-0132/2022. The Committee on the Environment, Climate and Food Safety handled the file and the rapporteur was Alessandra Moretti.
Who Is Affected
The measure applies to sustainable products and replaces the existing regulatory framework under Directive 2009/125/EC.
