EU Parliament consents to Iceland agreement on border management fund

Decision

The European Parliament adopted legislative resolution P9_TA(2024)0213 giving its consent to the conclusion of the Agreement between the Union and Iceland on supplementary rules in relation to the Instrument for Financial Support for Border Management and Visa Policy. The resolution refers to the draft Council decision 12125/2023, the draft Agreement 12124/2023 and follows the recommendation of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (A9‑0146/2024).

What Changes

Parliament’s consent enables the EU to conclude the Agreement that sets out supplementary rules as part of the Integrated Border Management Fund for the period 2021 to 2027. The consent was given following consideration of the Council’s request under Article 77(2) and Articles 218(6) and (7) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and under Rules 105 and 114 of Parliament’s Rules of Procedure.

The decision concerns the European Union and Iceland and will be forwarded to the Council, the Commission and the governments and parliaments of the Member States and of Iceland.
