EU gives consent to Cook Islands fisheries protocol

Decision

The European Parliament adopted a legislative resolution (P9_TA(2022)0272) on 5 July 2022 giving its consent to the conclusion of the implementation protocol and instructing its President to forward its position to the Council, the Commission and the governments and parliaments of the Member States and of the Cook Islands. The Committee on Fisheries had recommended consent (A9‑0197/2022).

What Changes

Parliament’s consent enables the EU to conclude the draft protocol on the implementation of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the Union and the Government of the Cook Islands, following the Council’s request for consent under the cited Treaty provisions. This completes the parliamentary consent step required for conclusion of the protocol.

Who Is Affected

The decision directly concerns the European Union and the Government of the Cook Islands and bears on fisheries arrangements and the national governments and parliaments of EU Member States.
