EU and Norway conclude Green Alliance, von der Leyen says
Key Development
The EU and Norway have concluded a Green Alliance, a high-level climate and energy partnership that is the EU's second Green Alliance after Japan and the first with a European country. It establishes privileged cooperation on climate action, clean energy, industrial transformation and environmental protection and expands joint work on carbon capture and storage and on clean hydrogen and electrolysers under the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance.
Why It Matters
The alliance aims to help the EU and Norway move toward climate neutrality and to boost renewables, notably North Sea offshore wind, which leaders said will support Europe's clean-tech industry and provide secure, affordable energy. It also focuses on critical raw materials, with an ongoing strategic partnership on critical raw materials and the batteries value chain that the parties hope to finalise soon.
Next Step
Next steps include the North Sea offshore wind Summit in Ostend and continued work to finalise the strategic partnership on critical raw materials and the batteries value chain while Norway maintains high gas supplies and responds to upcoming tenders.
