EP adopts position on Union Customs Code reform
Decision
The European Parliament adopted at first reading on 13 March 2024 its position (ref EP-PE_TC1-COD(2023)0156) with a view to the adoption of Regulation (EU) 2024/… establishing the Union Customs Code and the European Union Customs Authority and repealing Regulation (EU) No 952/2013 and Regulation (EU) 2022/2399.
What Changes
The adopted position proposes to establish a new Union Customs Code and to create the European Union Customs Authority while repealing the two cited existing regulations, thereby replacing the prior legal instruments governing customs at Union level.
Who Is Affected
The outcome concerns the Union customs framework and the European Union Customs Authority as set out in the proposed Regulation, and replaces the legal basis provided by the repealed regulations.
