EU objectives for CITES COP20 Uzbekistan

Decision

Parliament adopted oral question O-000035/2025, submitted on 25 September 2025 and debated in plenary and the Committee on the Environment, Climate and Food Safety on 22 October 2025, requesting the Council to clarify the EU’s objectives for CITES COP20 and to provide an update on the implementation of the revised EU action plan against wildlife trafficking.

What Changes

The adopted question recalls that the revised EU action plan, adopted in 2022 and guiding EU actions to 2027, focuses on addressing root causes of wildlife trafficking, strengthening the legal framework, enforcing regulations and policies, and reinforcing global partnerships. It asks the Council to report on the status of implementation since 2022 and on progress in remedying identified shortcomings and increasing the effectiveness of the EU response to illegal wildlife trade.
