Motion of censure on the Commission

EP Position

The European Parliament censures the European Commission, arguing that the Commission’s policies and actions have weakened the EU, undermined competitiveness and citizens’ trust. The motion accuses the Commission of financial scandals, breaches of transparency, overstepping competences, failures on migration, and threats to freedom of expression.

Key Trade Point

The motion alleges the Commission unilaterally signed the Mercosur Agreement in December 2024 and split it into two legal instruments to bypass national parliaments, and that a US–EU framework was concluded without a formal Council mandate. It warns these actions open EU markets to products not meeting EU environmental, social or sanitary standards and expose farmers, workers and SMEs to unfair competition and strategic dependencies.

What Comes Next

The Parliament instructs its President to forward the motion to the Presidents of the Council and of the Commission and to notify them of the plenary vote result.
