Parliament backs bluefin tuna catch documentation overhaul

Decision

The European Parliament adopted a position at first reading on 21 November 2023 (EP-PE_TC1-COD(2020)0302) with a view to the adoption of a Regulation establishing a catch documentation programme for bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) and repealing Regulation (EU) No 640/2010.

What Changes

The adopted position replaces the existing legal framework by introducing a new catch documentation programme for bluefin tuna and repealing Regulation (EU) No 640/2010, thereby shifting legal and procedural obligations from the old regulation to the new programme.

Who Is Affected

The decision affects EU institutions involved in fisheries regulation and oversight and entities subject to EU catch documentation rules for bluefin tuna, specifically the European Union, the European Commission and the Council of the European Union.
