Geographical indications for wine, spirit drinks and agricultural products (report)

Decision

The Parliament adopted the committee report on the Commission proposal for a regulation on EU geographical indications for wine, spirit drinks and agricultural products and quality schemes, approving the Commission proposal and amendments and adopting P9_TA(2023)0210 by a majority of the votes cast on 1 June 2023. A request for referral back to the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development for interinstitutional negotiations, tabled by rapporteur Paolo De Castro, was approved.

What Changes

The adopted text updates the legal framework governing geographical indications and quality schemes for wine, spirit drinks and agricultural products, and amends Regulations (EU) No 1308/2013, (EU) 2017/1001 and (EU) 2019/787 while repealing Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012. The matter has been referred back to the committee responsible for interinstitutional negotiations.
