Commission acts against unfairly traded imports of sweetcorn from China

Key development

The Commission has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties on imports into the EU of sweetcorn from the People’s Republic of China, with duty rates ranging from 31% to 54.3% following a 14-month investigation.

Context

The investigation found that imports of sweetcorn from China were entering the EU at dumped prices and were causing injury to the EU sweetcorn industry, which employs some 3,500 people across France, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Spain.

Details

Sweetcorn is a food product for human consumption typically sold in cans and also in glass jars, tetra packs or pouches. The EU market for sweetcorn is worth €642 million and the measures are anti-dumping trade defence actions.

Next steps

The Commission published the definitive measures on the EU legal site and the publication date is 6 February 2026. Imposing these duties is intended to help re-establish fair competitive conditions between imported sweetcorn from China and domestically produced sweetcorn.
